Small Group Development
Motives of having Life Groups
- Life Groups are for caring for people not trying to grow a church.
- Life Groups are for taking people through Spiritual Transformation!
- Life Groups are for helping people grow in their Relationship with God and others.
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others.
The Trend of our day is to get involved in activities and experience life because we don’t want to miss out on anything in life. We spend our time and resources collecting, going, wanting, saving so that we can experience Life.
We are a generation that is “Experience – Rich” and “Relationship – Poor!”
Now don’t misunderstand what I am saying because I am not saying we shouldn’t experience life but we need to know the richness we all want to experience is really found in and through relationships.
Life is more about relationships then anything else on planet earth.
As you get older you will discover your ability to have mature rich relationships is what makes life worth living.
You measure the quality of your life based not on how active you are, but the depth and richness of your relationships.
With out the ability to have mature and healthy relationships we will try to succeed in life in the area of our career, our hobbies, even our image, only to fail in our relationships with our parents, our spouse, our children, our co-workers and people in general.
Looking like giants in one area only to be stunted in our growth in the most important.
We are raising a generation to be wealthy in the area of activities and experiences hoping this will help them to be well adjusted and informed, so they can be productive citizens who will help others.
The reality of that though is they are going to be a generation who will be restless, anxious, material driven, empty and unfulfilled in their soul. They will be unaware how to relate with others and unaware how to rest.
We must teach our kids and teach ourselves that our relationship with the Lord is the most important relationship we will ever be involved with on planet earth!
Psalm 62:5
I wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
Lamentations 3:23-25
23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. 24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” 25 The LORD is wonderfully good to those who wait for him and seek him. 26 So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the LORD.
Our Life is really all about relationships…
- Our Relationship with God
- Our Relationship with our Spouse
- Our Relationship with friends
- Our Relationship with people
We want our kids to be successful in life. But life is really about how they can start and maintain relationships with others. This will determine how fulfilled they are in life.
We may be putting the wrong emphasis on what will really make a difference by helping them to be happy and fulfilled. Our kids may learn how to play with others but will they know how to pray with others.
Your most impacting and defining moments in your life are centered around relationships.
You have been and will continue to be shaped by the relationships you have right now and the ones you will have in the future.
Proverbs 13:20
20 Whoever walks with the wise will become wise; whoever walks with fools will suffer harm.
Your friends will determine the quality and direction of your life!
